Cinnamon
A Brief History of Chocolate

In a crossover, placebo-controlled study, the clinical results indicated that supplementation with cinnamon extract may improve glycemic (blood sugar) control and insulin sensitivity. The subjects received 3 grams per day cinnamon for 14 days, followed by 3 grams per day of placebo for another 14 days. At the cinnamon extract intervention end, reduced glucose and insulin responses to oral glucose tolerance tests (OGTT) were observed, along with improved insulin sensitivity. These effects were lost with placebo supplementation. Thus, the authors of this study concluded, "Cinnamon may improve glycemic control and insulin sensitivity, but the effects are quickly reversed."

Insulin resistance is the primary, underlying cause of the vast majority of cases of diabetes mellitus, which is a scourge of our civilization. Improving insulin cell receptor sensitivity is vital in the prevention of diabetes and its chronic health complications.
